Wii and DS supply problems? Apparently not in Japan, if the latest software charts are to be believed. Another week, another set of figures from Media Create, painting a picture of the Japanese videogames market that is - ack! - so much bigger, more interesting and better-stocked than our own. And we’re particularly green-eyed to see that nine of last week’s top ten games are on Nintendo formats . You’d need a pretty large installed user base in order to achieve such a feat, which explains why only two of our own top ten games are Nintendo exclusives. The quantities involved testify to that too - Mario Party DS has sold 180,000 units in the week ending December 16th, while Wii Fit managed 124,000. But don’t get us started on those UK Wii/DS 'issues' again… Elsewhere in the Japanese charts it’s interesting to note the almost complete absence of PS3 titles, and the barely modest sprinkling of PSP and PS2 games thereafter. Gran Turismo 5 prologue is the sole PS3 game in the top twenty, reaching this week’s number three. Then there’s Winning Eleven 2008 representing the PS2 at 11, Hot Shots Golf 2 on PSP at 18 and SD Gundam Generation Spirits (PS2) at 20. Not a great showing for Sony, eh? It’s still better than Microsoft, though, who are nowhere to be seen. But they’ll be used to that, right? Anyway, here’s what our Far Eastern gaming cuzzens have been buying: 1. Mario Party DS (DS)
2. Wii Fit (Wii)
3. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3)
4. Prof. Layton and Pandora’s Box (DS)
5. Super Mario galaxy (Wii)
6. Dragon Quest IV (DS)
7. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
8. Wii Sports (Wii)
9. Wii Play (Wii)
10. Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon (Wii)
