Reason enough to leap for that PSP as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions lands on 5 October.

Few videogames survive in the way that great novels or classic films endure. We usually look back in horror at games we once thought were phenomenal. But one said rarity is Final Fantasy Tactics, the celebrated strategic battle game based on the universe created by Square Enix. If you’re still playing GTA waiting for that other essential PSP game to happen along this could be it.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is an upgraded version of hugely popular game originally released for PlayStation 10 years ago. It combines the award-winning storytelling of Final Fantasy with rock solid strategy gameplay, presented with fascinating characters within beautiful worlds.

On PSP Square Enix has revised FF Tactics to include Wi-Fi battles in straightforward versus or co-op missions. There are now 400 abilities to master across 22 jobs, with new animations bringing it to life.

As with Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Buffy or whatever’s your bag, the appeal of Final Fantasy is universal. Newcomers shouldn’t feel intimidated. On the flip side, if you’re already a devoted FF enthusiast, there are legendary Square Enix characters to recruit that were not found in the original PS game.
