Are there too many awards in the games industry? You bet, and the winners tend to be the bleeding obvious choices at any given time too. To which end the powers that be responsible for the recent Leipzig Games Convention have just handed out their ‘Best of GC’ gongs. Hey-ho…

There’s little to surprise in the list of nine lucky recipients, each of which had to be playable but not published prior to the event (hence no Wii Fit, Heavy Rain, Rage etc). However the biggest non-surprise of all is the fact that Electronic Arts has walked off with nearly half of the available booty. Unbelievably wealthy publishing giant wins multiple industry accolades, who knew etc?

Anyway, here are the games that the good burghers of Leipzig have deemed noteworthy. Truth be told they’re all corkers too - yep, even the EA ones. There‘s no Best PS2 game this year due to the lack of quality entrants. Shame:

· Best Hardware: PlayTV (Sony)
· Best DS Game: Sonic Chronicles (Sega)
· Best Mobile Game: PES 2009 (Konami)
