We come to it at last, the great battle of our time. Well, the great battle of November 08 at least. In the event, though, Gears of War 2 reigns triumphant while LittleBigPlanet only managed to place fourth on this week’s countdown. Chalk one up to the 360…

We must admit we’re a little disappointed that LBP didn’t give Gears 2 a better run for its money - especially after all the favourable press that it’s been getting. Instead, not only has Sackboy been beaten into a whimpering fourth but he’s been trounced by FIFA 09 sticking at two and Fallout 3 slipping back to third. Oh well.

But LittleBigPlanet’s failure to conquer isn’t the only eye-opener on this week’s chart. Perhaps more shocking is the poor placing of a pair of supposed blockbusters - namely MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and the voice-controlled Tom Clancy’s EndWar, which placed 29th and 30th respectively. We’d like to think it’s a public reaction to the inappropriate use of capiTal leTters in the middle of gAme namEs but, y’know, they probably just failed to ignite the public imagination. Shame.

Elsewhere we note the top ten departure of Fable 2, Saints Row 2 and Far Cry 2 - sequels one and all, if that‘s significant. Also Guitar Hero: World Tour’s debut at a lowly 17. That might be surprising in view of its predecessor’s gargantuan success, however the first week sales are for the basic guitar-only peripheral pack - the big box version arrives this weekend, and we don’t really doubt it’ll rock long and hard in the long term.
