DSi UK launch success quantified [DS]

ChartTrack recently told us all about the DSi’s successful launch without bothering to supply any actual figures. But that’s all been resolved now, and we can reveal that Nintendo’s evolutionary handheld sold 92,000 units in just two days. Hey, not bad!

So that means the DSi still hangs on to all its accolades - it’s the fourth fastest-selling console in UK history (behind the PSP, PS3 and Wii) and it fared better at launch than either the original DS or DS Lite. It transpires that the DSi also outpaced the sales of all other consoles combined over the weekend too - and given the hot cake-esque way the Wii is shifting at the mo’ that’s really saying something.

There was some initial confusion about the exact figure, though. First indications pegged launch weekend sales nearer the 103,000 mark. It’s a bit of a disparity with the actual sale. But, thinking about it, if Nintendo had enough units on retail shelves to satisfy such demand in the first place there should still be at least 11,000 left in stock now, right? Well, in theory…
