Profits boosted by almost a third on the back of strong Wii sales in the first quarter of the year. Good for Nintendo. Good for you? We guess it must be. Over five million Wii consoles have been sold worldwide from April until June, Nintendo reports. That’s a 51 percent increase from this time last year, with the net effect of boosting profits by 31.5 percent across the company. The healthy sales figures are almost twice those of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined during the same period. On top of that, Nintendo DS trounced Sony PSP with sales of 6.94 million units versus 3.72 million respectively. And this after a slight downturn! And so it’s realistic to suggest that the Nintendo dream is far from over, and with major publishers such as Electronic Arts fully developing hot new franchises for the consoles they’ll continue to be a safe bet as gifts for at least another Christmas.
