Times Square destination for Nintendo

Friday December 19, 08:08 AM Times Square destination for Nintendo

More forget-the-recession shenanigans involving Wii and DS this morning as Toys“R”Us announces Nintendo theme ‘Store within a Store’.

Ahead of the New Year celebrations the most exciting thing to happen to New Yorkers this ‘holiday’ is the grand opening of a dedicated Nintendo department within what’s modestly described as “The World’s Greatest Toy Store”.

Specially trained and uniformed Nintendo experts have been employed to patrol the 1,000 square feet area of Toys“R”Us in Times Square, assisting eager punters with displays that highlight Nintendo consoles’ unique capabilities. Aside from an entire wall dedicated to Nintendo Wii and numerous DS consoles to have a go at, the new Toys“R”Us zone also houses a Nintendo museum of sorts.

According to Bill Lee, Vice President, Divisional Merchandise Manager, Toys“R”Us, US: “Toys“R”Us Times Square is the premier New York City destination for families, and Nintendo offers the ultimate family gaming experience, making a partnership between our two brands the perfect match. The new, dedicated Nintendo department at Toys“R”Us Times Square allows us to offer customers an exceptional interactive experience for testing out the latest Nintendo products.”

“In recent weeks, Nintendo products appear to be appealing to even more people, as every form of fun is being measured against a price tag,” commented Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

It’ll never catch on you know. And it won't last.
