It’s surely been a good day for unintentional product announcements. First Electronic Arts’ Russian website unveils Mass Effect 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 for PlayStation 3 (both strenuously denied by EA UK reps, by the way), and now a piece of movie scenery gets the jump on Resistance 3. The movie in question is apparently Battle: Los Angeles, although the filming is actually taking place in Shreveport, Louisiana. Anyway, part of the background scenery is a large billboard bearing the simple message “Resistance 3”, with the Statue of Liberty and other elements of the New York skyline cleverly worked into the lettering. Also present are the PS3 and Insomniac Games logos. It all looks real and official enough – take a butcher’s. Adding fuel to the already smouldering fire it turns out that Battle: Los Angeles is being produced by Sony Pictures. It might be putting two and two together to make seventeen, but, as far as we're concerned, it's unlikely in the extreme that the Sony marketing men would place any product in one of their own movies that doesn’t already/isn’t going to exist. Well, would they? Battle: Los Angeles is slated for a 2011 release, which rather indicates that we’ll be seeing Resistance 3 around the same time – it looks likely that the game is set in New York too. Needless to say Sony won’t be saying a dickie-bird about anything until they’re good and ready. And don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen...
