It’s the year of the Playstation 3 comeback, don’tcha know. Not that this oft’ repeated rumour is causing much concern over at Camp Xbox, where the dear old, not-dead-yet 360 has just reported a dramatic uplift in sales. It’s all thanks to last Friday’s timely price cuts, and we’re not at all surprised to learn that sales have been up around 40% since. Bosh! Well, if you’re in the market for a next-gen console upon which to play top games like, ooh, GTAIV there are two sub-£200 360-flavoured options that fit the bill a bit more than nicely. However it’s a little too early to pronounce Microsoft’s savvy discounting tactic a winner, as Chart Track’s Dorian Block explains: “Now it's a question of Easter,” he tells Gamesindustry.biz. “The real litmus test will be over the next three to four weeks – it's too early to read too much into it at this stage.” In other words the proof of this particular pudding is in the number of games bought for each system. In this regard, though, we doubt that Microsoft is having too many kittens, what with the largest library of killer next-gen titles to flog, the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto IV lining up at the back end of April and, oh yes, those exclusive GTAIV downloadable extras in prospect. Think about all that and the newly-cheapo 360 seems kinda irresistible, doesn’t it? Hmm, then again Sony’s got a £299 Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PS3 bundle arriving next week. And then there’s Wii Fit and Mario Kart… Ach, it’s going to be a great Easter for games which ever side of the fence you fall. And if console prices keep tumbling like this you’ll soon be able to buy all three contenders anyway. Problem solved!
