Uncharted movie planned [PS3]

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Colombia Pictures is developing a movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. That’s good news, right?

Movies based on video games don’t usually inspire much confidence – similarly games based on movies – but this one could really work. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is already a pretty cinematic experience, after all.

The script for the movie broadly follows that of the PS3 game, as hero Nathan Drake sets out to find the fabled city of El Dorado only to have his quest frustrated by greedy rivals, Nazis and, er, mutoid Spaniards. Those are the bare bones of an enticing, Indiana Jones-styled action adventure, right there.

Production duties fall to Avi and Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, who have blockbusters such as Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight and Indecent Proposal on their CVs. Meanwhile the screenplay will be penned by Kyle Ward, who is also busy scribing the Bruce Willis-starring Kane & Lynch movie.

No date, or any other kind of details are given. Likewise there’s no guarantee that the Uncharted movie will ever make it out of development hell. Either way it looks like it’s in safe hands. More soon, we hope.
