A trio of brand new titles for WiiWare and DsiWare today. Nothing for Virtual Console, though. Boo! Time enough for all that, though. Meanwhile the WiiWare fun lifts off with Icarian: Kindred Spirits, which promises, rather grandly: “Feel The Emotion of Flight”. In practical terms this translates into a moderately good looking side-scrolling platformer, in which our winged heroine Nyx flaps through the sun-scorched landscapes of ancient Greece in search of her missing friend Icarus. The Wii Remote controls Nyx’s movements as well as handling the aiming and shooting duties. It’s 1000 Wii Points, there’s a two-player co-op mode and www.icariangame.com has more info. Next! Okay, Let’s Catch, also on WiiWare, wins today’s prize for the most forehead-slappingly obvious name. In short – very short – it’s a big old game of catch. Makes a change from just throwing things with the Wiimote, we suppose. There are six single and multiplayer games, with self-explanatory options such as ‘Speed Catch’ and ‘Bomb Catch’ and special features are unlocked if users also own a copy of Let’s Tap. It’s 1000 Points and, heck, it’s by Sega so it’s probably a lot more fun than we’re making it sound. Finally DSiWare, and a title that looks suspiciously like homework trying to masquerade as entertainment – A Little Bit of Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: Maths Edition. There isn’t much to know here. It’s basically a collection of mathematical challenges and fun exercises designed to keep your synapses firing. When that gushing fountain of edutainment finally runs dry you can always try working out how Nintendo arrived at the price of 800 Points. Beats us...
