No Street Fighter IV for your Wii? No worries!

Wii may have missed out on Capcom's Top 10 brawler, but Nintendo's plucky pint-sized console is by no means out for the count!

Street Fighter IV has become one of our most-played games at Yahoo! UK, and we're glad to see it keeping a stranglehold on the All Formats Top 10 this week. Sadly it's only Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers who are lapping it up.

There isn't a version of ‘Streets IV' for Wii, probably because all that muscle would give it a hernia. There are, however, two collections of downright brilliant fighters coming to Wii this weekend, namely The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga and the Samurai Shodown Anthology.

The roster on The King of Fighters Collection is legendary; defining moments in versus fighting history from the first five years of the series: '94, '95, '96, '97, and '98 ‘Dream Match Never Ends'. That last title is reason enough to hunt this disc down.

Fighting game aficionados will certainly find value in revisiting earlier classics if only to savour the artwork and music - all benchmark performances from SNK. However '98 holds its own against any present-day smash-'em-up. It may not boast the snazzy 3D visuals of Street Fighter IV but the gameplay is still to die for.

Versions of The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga are also available for PlayStation 2 and PSP. But the Wii version has another trick up its sleeve that could make it essential for fight fans with HD TVs. The Wii version supports EDTV / HDTV via component cable and progressive scan, providing a gorgeous tear-free rendition of some of the greatest characters and backdrops ever to grace the screen.

SNK Playmore also releases its Samurai Shodown Anthology for Wii and PSP this week, which includes every game in the series since 1993 until the most recent: Samurai Shodown VI (2005). The Samurai Shodown games are every bit as enjoyable as The King of Fighters but have a distinct feel owing to the weapons based combat. They are also very bloody, however, so parents should be advised!

Another boon for Wii is that you can pick up one of Hori's high-quality Fighting Sticks for around £40. And these are - shock - widely available (or they were at the time of writing!). That's pennies compared to the mighty Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition FightStick from Mad Catz... sold out everywhere you look. Sigh.

So stop your sulking in the corner over there, never mind that you can't play Street Fighter IV on the family console. Trust us on this one, The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga and Samurai Shodown Anthology will keep you more than entertained. They'll turn you into a fighting god in fact if you can master all the moves. At £30 each this is amazing value for money, especially considering that KOF '94 still costs 900 Wii Points (approximately £7) from the Virtual Console.

You can pick up both collections for under £50 if you shop around. For this you'll take home a library of some of the greatest fighting games ever made, no question at all. Even if you do own Street Fighter IV for Xbox 360 or PS3 (lucky you), if there's a Wii at home too this SNK Playmore range comes most highly recommended.
