So much for toasters, cutlery and beige bed sheets; it seems that young couples are adding the Wii to their wedding lists these days.
According to retail giants John Lewis the traditional wedding gift staples are making way for more hi-tech items. It’s all a result of many couples co-habiting before wedlock, hence amassing the sort of stuff that might otherwise make it onto a typical wedding list, they say.
So out go the housewares and in come iPods, flatscreen TVs, digital photo frames and the like. Also, as of late last year, the £179 Wii Sports pack has joined the list of the top 20 most-requested wedding gift items.
John Lewis doesn’t reveal at which place on the list the Wii currently stands. However, given the enduring popularity of Nintendo’s motion-sensitive console, it seems like an eminently modern choice.
We’re wondering which of Wii Sports’ five activities is proving to be most popular with newlyweds, though? Perhaps tennis for those early, vigorous days of marriage, golf as the relationship matures and then much later, er, boxing...?
