The Queen takes a Wii

Her Majesty the Queen has taken delivery of a brand new gold-plated Wii today. And very splendid it is too – we bet it looks absolutely tickety-boo under the Royal 52” plasma.

It’s all part of a cheeky publicity stunt, of course, to mark the release of ‘BIG Family Games’ for the Wii. Although we note with some concern that the game’s publishers, THQ, do not appear to have supplied enough gilded Remotes and Nunchuks for the whole family –  at least not one the size of the Queen’s extended brood. Doubtless she gets first dibs if push comes to shove, though.

But how else is the Queen going to keep herself entertained once she’s exhausted the many delights of BIG Family Games? Wii Fit might suit, with its regime of gentle exercises to suit ladies of a certain age. And if Mario Kart is good enough for the Redknapps it’s bound to suit the Windsors, isn’t it? Then we’re thinking Tiger Woods 10 with the new MotionPlus accessory – the Queen is bound to have excellent wrist control after all those years of Royal-waving!

A gold-plated Wii for the Royal Family has got us thinking, too. If you were to send a special edition console to a public dignitary or famous face, what would it be and what colour/pattern? And what about a suitable game to go with your generous gift? A shocking pink ‘360 for Jordan, with a copy of Dead or Alive 4, y’know, for compare/contrast purposes. Something in a fetching shade of turgid brown for those cheating MPs perhaps?
