It had to happen sooner or later. Downloadable adult movies for home consoles, we mean. As it stands the PS3 is the first to receive such a service...
Japanese company DDM.tv is first out of the gate, providing Blu-ray quality adult entertainment to Japanese PS3 owners with a broadband connection, an HDMI connected telly and a suitably charged credit card. A number of titles are currently available, apparently.
Perhaps unsurprisingly there’s no sign of a European roll-out for the service, or any like it. It’s difficult to imagine any of the big three going for it over here either. That said, dedicated-types may already catch the occasional glimpse of flesh in some of the Xbox 360’s fruitier movie offerings if they look hard enough.
So are services like this inevitable in the longer term? It seems likely, especially as all the major players are attempting to broaden their appeal to adult audiences and make their hardware the key component of the home entertainment experience. We daresay the large amounts of cash to made may be an influencing factor too.
Or, bearing in mind that these are still games machines first and foremost, should this sort of thing be avoided at all costs? Share your reckonings below:
