EA: pro-creation, but no sex please

The launch of EA's Spore Creature Creator attracted over 250,000 downloads in the first day. Whereupon we humans, the crown of God's creation, wasted no time being naughty as can be. Titter.

Spore Creature Creator lets you "Build, Paint, Play and Share" your own being as a prelude to ‘God-game' released on Mac and PC in September. You can make anything, pretty much, because the tools are so versatile and easy to use. After you've made the whatever-it-is you can then email it to your friends or upload it to the official "Sporepedia" - Spore Encyclopaedia, get it?

As wonderful as this idea truly is for the young and young at heart, it is perhaps the Adolescents-4-Ever that deserve celebrating the most. It's springtime after all, and so what happens is a handful of enterprising guys and gals have created a bestiary of phallic and mammary related offerings with names such as ‘Member' and ‘Boobalicious'. The names alone leave little to the imagination.

Maybe the correct response, in line with EA, is to be appalled at such behaviour. The ‘offenders' have received terse letters alerting users in violation of their online contracts with EA. But, you know what, if this is who we really are when it boils down to it, should we really accept being admonished by game publishers?

You really have to laugh. I mean, before Spore Creature Creator was let loose on 17 June, there must've been at least one meeting in which one EA representative asked "So, what if they start making willys and boobs and stuff like that?" To which the headmaster responds "We revoke their rights to EA online entertainment!"

Come on, this is hilarious. Can't just be me?

    Be warned, if you download a game from EA Games you are not entitled to a refund if it won't run. I downloaded the demo version of Command & Conquer 3 which ran fine on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. However, when I purchased the full game from their on line store, it wouldn't run. I contacted their help desk and 24 x hours later they advied me to re install, which I did, but this took another 24 x hours. Then they advised me to upgrade my video driver, which I did, but it made no difference. Then they advised me to switch off Vista user administrator restrictions which I did, it made no difference. All these interactions took 24 x hours to respond. Then a new "technical support" advisor told me to upgrade my video driver? At this point I replied saying that I had already tried that and it hadn't worked and I asked for re-fund. At this point they refered to the small print of their terms and conditions saying that "Unfortunately, as stated on the Terms of Sale for our website purchases: "There are no refunds for products or services purchased on our Websites. If you reside in the European Union and you purchase a product or service on one of our Websites, you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within fourteen calendar days, commencing on the day after the date of purchase (the "Cooling Off Period"). You will lose your right of withdrawal if you start downloading your product, or if the performance of our services has begun, before the end of the Cooling Off Period. Please note that if you purchase services from us, the performance of our services will begin immediately after you have received our purchase confirmation email."

    spore is lush. i have it and its cool. especially the tribal stage.
