Spore, what is it good for? 8 out of 10?

The Spore reviews are rolling in now across Europe, averaging 8ish out of 10. Although we are in the business of handing out review scores here on Yahoo! UK Games, in the case of a project as grandiose as Spore, a mark out of 5, 10 or 100 seems rather arbitrary don't you think? I feel for the reviewer who agonised over his 73% score in Germany. Are you really sure about that, guy? Like it could be a 78 and who's ever going to trust your opinion ever again?! Actually another German magazine did award Spore 78% after the fact. Whoaah... so casual with that 5%! Our very own PC Gamer magazine awarded Spore 91%. This being the cover game it needed to be 90% or above to earn exclusivity (we guess), so obviously the reviewers didn't want to push the boat out too far. "Okay, ninety-ONE percent, but we draw the line at that."

We will, of course, be applying our fantastic out of five opinion to Spore this coming weekend on Yahoo! UK Games. But in this case we suggest you sample the game and form your own opinion because, somehow, playing God with a god-game from the god of all god-games just feels bizarre. Anyway, Will, if you're reading this, you can do no wrong old feller. We might not understand everything you're trying to do in the world but it's fascinating and life would just be boring without it, you know? Though it will be fun to feel holier than thou albeit temporarily and with little consequence.
