Remember Wii horror game, Sadness? You’d be forgiven for not doing so since its seemingly interminable development can give even Alan Wake a run for his money. However, the Polish outfit behind the title, Nibris, has just announced something approaching a confirmed release date. Yep, we can’t quite believe it either. Don’t hold your collective breaths, though, as the game still won’t make it onto retail shelves until autumn 2009. Hmm, so that’s still more than a year away and even then there’s a three month window for them to aim at. Talk about vague! But that’s been the over-riding theme for Sadness since it was first revealed back in, ooh, 2006, and there’s been precious little in the way of hard info to tantalise the Wii Massive since then – a few blurry images and an unintentionally hilarious product synopsis describing the tale of a 19th century Russian aristocrat protecting her blind son from monsters is all. However the newly re-launched website (nibris.net/projekty_sadness_en) supplies a couple more details, promising a “black and white psychological horror game” that will take players to the “borders of imagination” and “the darkest corners of consciousness”. If also warns that those in the market for a blood-soaked gore-fest should look elsewhere for thrills since the 17+-rated Sadness is all about schizophrenia, narcolepsy and a mood that’ll linger long after you’ve finished playing. So, think you can maintain your intrigue until the back half of next year? Maybe you won’t have to because Nibris have also announced that they’ll be at this year’s Leipzig Games Convention. Whether they’ll be showing the game in action is, of course, and entirely different matter...
