DS to break 100 million worldwide sales [DS]

Wednesday March 11, 11:38 AM DS to break 100 million worldwide sales

The big news according to Japan’s finance newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, is that the humble DS will bust the 100 million sales milestone some time during the middle of this month. Good grief!

That’s 100 million sales of Nintendo’s twin-screened wonder in all its iterations - silver-grey clamshell, tasty Lite and the all-new DSi - since the machine first launched at the back end of 2004. The rest, as they say, is history, and by December 31st 2008 sales were already hovering around the 96 million mark.

Now, as the stat watchers at VGChartz.com have it, Nintendo needs less than half a million more sales to break the 100 million target. With the camera-equipped DSi currently embarrassing the sales of hotcakes in Japan and soon to launch in Europe and the States it looks likely they’ll breeze it too. Read it and weep, Mr Sony PSP.

So, will you be buying one when it launches next month (April 3rd)? You’ll have to fight your way past us first…
