June edition of the US PlayStation online magazine ‘Qore’ reveals PSP Go, the long-rumoured and oft-denied successor to PSP. “We’re on our way to an undisclosed secret location escorted by Sony Computer Entertainment security to meet the newest member of the PlayStation family. With the formal announcement at this year’s E3 everyone wants to get their hands on the new PSP Go.” And with that Qore host Veronica Belmont takes us behind the scenes at Sony to bring our first glimpse of PSP Go. She has an audience with John Koller, Director, Hardware Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA). Thing is, we’re not supposed to have seen this yet. The June edition of Qore has somehow found its way onto YouTube, and at the time of writing you can watch the whole thing here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJfZ6TjU1WQ Technical specifications according to John Koller are listed as follows: 3.8” screen, 43 per cent lighter than the PSP 3000, 16GB Flash Memory, Bluetooth support, all digital content “the UMD drive goes away”. The console also supports Memory Stick Micro to add more memory, and this will allow for media storage such as movies and TV shows. The clip also confirms Gran Turismo for PSP Go, currently officially under wraps before E3. Oops. Koller also informs Qore viewers that PSP 3000 will not be phased out to make room for PSP Go. The two consoles will be offered to suit different types of consumer, ones that prefer the tangible nature of UMD and those that prefer download content. This same strategy applies to all PlayStation products going forward. PSP Go will be available from autumn in the US. We’ll wait for the, ahem, official announcement later this week for UK details.
