Madcap platform gaming legend, Earthworm Jim, is to be revived in a brand new title destined for console download services and mobile platforms. Whoa Nelly! Gameloft and Interplay are partnering up to bring the interstellar annelid back to life, and they’re already promising that the new game’s “humorous and edgy style” will be a “great fit for today’s gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible.” Other, more revealing game details are non-existent at present. That said, we note a close association of the words “run” and “gun” in Interplay’s press release, so you can be fairly confident that the new EJ game will be in the same spirit as its 16-bit predecessor. And that’s definitely no bad thing. The new EJ will slither onto the PlayStation Network, WiiWare and Xbox LIVE in the last quarter of 2009 – there’s a month-long period of exclusivity on the latter first, though. The ‘mobile platforms’ bit rather suggests that an iPhone app is in the works too. We hope so anyway. We’ll be back with more soon, maybe even a few first screens from GamesCom. Meantime Gameloft will be tweeting all about it at http://www.twitter.com/Gameloft. Check it out.
