505 Games has snapped up the global publishing rights for a video game based on the 31 year-old movie Grease. Uh well-a well-a well-a huh! DS and Wii iterations are planned, each allowing players to sing and dance their giddy, possibly inebriated behinds off alongside digital representations of Danny, Sandy and the entire movie cast. Other gameplay details are frustratingly scant at the moment, although 505 mentions that the Wii’s motion-sensing controls and microphone, and the DS’ touch screen will be brought into play. “We are really excited about working with Paramount Digital Entertainment to turn this world famous film into a video game for the very first time. Working with such a well known and much loved brand is a great opportunity and we believe the collaboration further strengthens 505 Games’ entertainment portfolio,” gushes 505 Games honcho, Ian Howe. So there it is. Paramount’s involvement rather suggests that the original soundtrack might be used too, although this is not yet confirmed. One question, though – the movie lasts 110 minutes, and that’s allowing for a bit of acting in between all the singing and dancing bits. Won’t this make Grease: The Video Game a little, y’know, short? Guess we’ll see soon enough...
