First week sales of over 1.4 million earn The Sims 3 the accolade of Biggest Launch Week in Franchise History for proud publishers EA. Sims fans placed The Sims 3 top of the UK charts this week and emphatically so according to Electronic Arts. The PC / Mac game sold more than 1.4 million units within its first week worldwide, making it the ‘best-selling PC launch in EA’s history’. Chart Track revealed on Monday that The Sims 3 enjoyed the fourth biggest UK opening week for a PC game. It has been incredibly strong on iPhone and iPhone touch also, becoming the number one paid-for application in 37 countries within two days from launch on 2 June. The new feature player-created content sharing has proven to be hugely popular already too: Seven million downloads of Sims, houses, and stories etc so far. Says Rod Humble, Head of the EA Play Label: “The volume of items created with The Sims 3 and downloaded online is a testament to how passionate The Sims players are. It’s their world now, we can’t wait to see everything players create and share.” Yahoo! UK Games awarded The Sims 3 top marks in our review last Friday.
