Guitar Hero to ditch consoles [X360]

Activision Blizzard bossman, Bobby Kotick, has spoken about a possible console-less future for the Guitar Hero franchise.

Speaking to a doubtless rapt audience at a recent Deutsche Bank conference Kotick revealed that Guitar Hero might not be the only Activision property to go it alone either:

“I think what the untethered Guitar Hero does is it maybe equals the playing field a little bit more and gives you the leverage with first parties on downloadable content and the business model.” He begins, before dropping the big one...

“You should expect to see many of our products to be playable on the television independent of a console.”

Well, such talk is bound to put the willies right up the big platform-holders, all of whom have enjoyed fat royalties courtesy of Activision’s biggest-sellers over the years. Meanwhile Guitar Hero 5 is riding high atop the current games charts and Kotick will be ruefully fishing out the company chequebook in preparation to hand over yet another chunk of profits to Microsoft, Sony et al. We guess it all comes down to cold, hard cash in the end.

Anyway, it seems that Kotick has made his mind up, no matter what. Thus you can expect a house-full of large plastic peripherals in the not-too distant future. DJ Hero and Tony Hawk: Ride for starters...
