After the brief mention in a recent trading report Electronic Arts has supplied first details and a cool new movie for Dead Space Extraction, exclusively for the Wii. And this is no hastily cobbled together port of the next-gen game either. Instead Extraction promises an all-new heroine and a storyline that charts the events leading up to Isaac Clarke’s eventual misadventures on the bad ship USG Ishimura. All with motion-sensitive Wiimote controls, of course. So here’s the premise - the Aegis VII mining colony has fallen to a strange and, yep, horrifying infection that’s turning the crew into hideous, flesh-munching monstrosities one by one. Against this background a new heroine emerges whose wellbeing is crucial to the longer-term survival of the whole colony - at least what remains of it. To which end Extraction introduces a cast of new characters, new weapons, enemies, puzzles and, ooh, co-op multiplayer gaming. Better yet the creeping horror will not be toned down for fear of offending the Wii audience’s delicate sensibilities. Heck no: “Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction. As we were developing Dead Space, we realised that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect,” says EA Redwood Shores VeePee, Glen Schofield, reassuringly. Sounds good enough to us, and the trailer we’ll post in a mo’ would seem to confirm his words too. The game itself is scheduled for an Autumn release. Be very afraid etc…
