If you’ve noticed the disc slot on your Wii glowing a fetching, if slightly alarming shade of blue this morning, that’s because there’s a new Firmware update to download.

Wii Menu Version 4.1, as Nintendo snappily calls it, operates in the background, improving overall system performance and fixing things up to enhance your Wii gaming experience. Or something like that. In other words, download it and forget about it, ‘cos you probably won’t notice it working otherwise.

There are a couple more benefits, though. Firstly, it apparently fixes a bug in Wii Sports Resort – very handy, seeing as the game’s out next week. Secondly, it deletes any dodgy ‘unauthorized modifications to save files’ you may have – i.e. it’s an anti-piracy measure designed to upset the homebrew crowd. Er, quite right too...
