Hopkins and Winstone illuminate Beowulf game [X360]

Ubisoft has lined up an altogether different kind of squad-based strategy for its videogame based on the Beowulf movie: Hollywood stars!

Four, count ’em, Hollywood movie stars will lend their voice and likeness to the Beowulf videogame for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Anthony ‘Zorro’ Hopkins, Ray ‘King Enry’ Winstone, Brendan ‘Mad Eye Moody’ Gleeson and Sebastien (err… sorry) Roche will reprise their roles from the movie. By the way, when we say “lend their voice and likeness” it’s not like they put these in a box and courier them to the studio. According to Ubisoft, Ray Winstone claimed that his time spent recording lines for the Beowulf game was the “hardest working day of my life!” Apparently Mr Hopkins is a real gent.

Both the movie and the game of Beowulf will be released in November. Winstone plays the majestic hero, involved in battle scenes that’ll make you sweat. Hopkins is King Hrothgar, which is far easier to write than it is to say. Legendary director Robert Zemeckis has been in charge of the big screen event; Ubisoft’s Tiwak studio (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter) has developed the game. Ubisoft, Paramount Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment have been working in close collaboration for the past two years or so to get this right. Rather than emulate big scenes from the movie, Beowulf on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and PSP will convey what happened in the 30yrs between Beowulf’s fight with Grendel and his being crowned king.

We’ll be taking an in-depth look at the Beowulf game next Tuesday, 30 October, here on Yahoo! UK Games.
