Tremble, feeble competitors, Sony is on the warpath with a 2009 software lineup that is both “relentless” and of “AAA quality”. Oo-err. “Starting it with Killzone 2, we’re going to arrest the momentum from competitors with titles like MLB 09: The Show, which some are calling the best sports title ever made,” Sony America marketing dude Scott Steinberg tells Gamedaily.com. “Then in summer there’s inFamous and you’ll get to see even more excellent titles at E3. If PlayStation fans thought that we’d rest on our laurels from last year and if competitors thought that we’d punched ourselves out, both are mistaken.” Well, that’s the sort of fighting-talk we love, but what laurels would they be, we wonder? The laurels where Sony’s next-gen console was comprehensively outsold by its rivals, perhaps? Either way Killzone 2 does seem to arrive at a bit of a turning point for the Playstation 3. Sales are on a determinedly upward trajectory and there are a number of attractive games in the offing - Uncharted 2 for one. However we’re not sure that Killzone 2 really “demonstrates the distance between the PS3 and other systems” as Steinberg claims. It’s no better looking than Gears of War 2, and, in all honesty, it’s not as much fun to play either. In our humble opinion, that is. But let's wait and see what surprises E3 brings...
