The Wii surely has more than its fair share of odd and often superfluous peripherals, but here’s one that properly raises the stakes – a full-sized and fully-functioning exercise bike. Cyberbike, from Bigben Interactive, is, of course, yet another fitness game for Nintendo’s home console. The press blurb claims that it introduces “a brand new way to do sports in your living room”, which is a somewhat inflated boast given that regular exercise bikes got there decades ago. Nevertheless a full cardiovascular workout looms in ominous prospect as players are invited to virtually banish planetary pollution by way of pedalling like a loon whilst the bike transforms in-game into a series of improbable vehicles – a submarine, helicopter and, er, regular bike to name but three. There are 18 themed circuits to pootle around too, with unlockable extras such as new backpacks and vehicle colours. On top of that the bike itself is fully adjustable to fit all family members. Likewise gameplay comes in three variously exhausting flavours – Fitness, Story and a multiplayer mode for up to four players. Not all at once, obviously. It’s January 2010 for this, pricing still TBC – but not especially cheap, we're guessing. But Cyberbike is not the only daffy accessory-based fitness game on Bigben’s seasonal schedule. My Body Coach supplies personal training advice from bona-fide Hollywood hardbody, Valeri Orsoni (you’ve heard of her, right?), complete with nutritional advice, meal suggestions, a fully customisable training regime based on a range of 200 individual exercise activities and, oh yeah, two 500g dumbbells that you plug your Wii Remotes into. My Body Coach arrives November 20th and, presumably, comes in a much smaller box than its bike-based counterpart.
