Lego Batman The Videogame
This latest creation from the Lego Star Wars crew boasts the same originality of thought and sense of fun throughout. Something to look forward to this autumn, meantime let’s look at who’s joining Batman for this ‘block’-busting adventure.
First may we remind everyone how completely unexpected the success of Lego Star Wars was to most seasoned hacks. It seemed like a cold-hearted marketing ploy, but the quality gameplay, genuinely hilarious slap-stick comedy and razor-sharp quips enraptured gamers young and old. So we’re genuinely excited about Lego Batman and more so with each new character reveal that gives clues to the missions.
We’ve learned today that The Riddler will join The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, Scarecrow and Killer Croc among others as villains stalking Batman throughout Gotham City. The Riddler uses his trusty question-mark cane to help him bash foes or slither along telegraph cables. He’s quite the acrobat, and quite the show-off with it as you’ll see from our exclusive trailer.
Lego Batman for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC boasts an extraordinary level of visual quality. The games always looked terrific on original Xbox and PlayStation 2, but now it’s as though you’re controlling a toy set through the window of your TV. The gameplay is already proven however, so editions planned for Nintendo’s barnstorming Wii and DS consoles should hold their own, and the PSP stands a chance of looking especially sweet for a handheld game. Both handheld editions will feature network modes allowing players to link systems for co-op gameplay.
A novel twist to the proceedings is that you’ll have the choice to play as the villains instead of the Dynamic Duo, with special missions devised for criminal intent as opposed to crime prevention. You can bet it’s going to be a lot of fun winding up Batman with your mischievous ploys, perhaps more fun than playing the hero!
From what we’ve seen, Travellers Tales has really excelled itself in Lego Batman. There are plenty of gadgets befitting the Caped Crusader and rival meddlers alike. And we really can’t wait to take off in the Batwing, Batboat and iconic Batmobile Lego style. We’re being promised untold replay value also, with levels that you’ve unlocked available for free-play mode so that every last secret can be uncovered.
