EA kills Tiberium [X360]

Wednesday October 1, 12:27 PM EA kills Tiberium

Command & Conquer-based first-person shooter, Tiberium, has been sent to the great games development studio in the sky. Oh dear…

"The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market,” says EA’s Mariam Sughayer, brusquely.

Well, blimey, given the amount of dross out there - particularly in the FPS category - how bad does a game have to be before development is canned? Then again EA has a bit of a rep to maintain and this one apparently stank from birth, as this excerpt from an internal memo reveals:

"The game had fundamental design challenges from the start. We fought to correct the issues, but we were not successful; the game just isn't coming together well enough to meet our own quality expectations as well as those of our consumers."

So the outcome of all this? Two years of wasted development at EA’s LA Studios, disappointment that a potentially exciting premise has come to nought and, likely, a few redundancies as EA tries to shoehorn the former dev team into other projects. Shame.
