Wii woes in Japan but DS still rocks [DS]

Thursday April 23, 10:05 AM Wii woes in Japan but DS still rocks

Nintendo’s flagship title Wii Fit sinks below the Top 10 while the latest DS Pokemon tops the Japanese charts. Boo! Hurray!

As you probably know we’ve been keeping a close eye on the Japanese charts to see how Wii is faring. This past week hasn’t been looking too healthy. The handhelds are ruling the roost in the East where Nintendo dominates the Top 10 with DS titles.

In first place is the newly launched Pokemon adventure “Fushigo no Dungeon”, and its Nintendo stable mate “Mario 7 Luigi RPG 3” resides at number three. The only Wii game hanging on by its fingernails to 10th spot is “Deca Sports 2” (Sports Island 2) from Hudson, however sales were quite poor.

Elsewhere PSP is finding lots of elbow room with titles in second, fourth, sixth and ninth. Capcom is doing pretty well out of this with Monster Hunter Portable 2 G with sales totalling almost 600,000 to date! Koei’s “Musuo Orochi Z” (Dynasty Warriors) is representing PlayStation 3 – also not quite yet firing on all cylinders. With over three million sales and counting it looks like Wii Fit is running out of steam - but don't count it out of the race for best-selling game of all time just yet.

Anyway, here’s how the Japanese Top 10 looks for the week ending 19 April:

1. Pokemon Fushigi no dungeon (DS)
2. BASARA Battle Heroes (PSP)
3. Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (DS)
4. Monster Hunter Portable 2 G (PSP)
5. Hitman Reborn (DS)
6. Fantasy Golf Pangya Portable (PSP)
7. Pro Yakyuu Famista DS 2009 (DS)
8. Musou Orochi Z (PS3)
9. Mobile Suit Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna Portable (PSP)
10. Deca Sports 2 (Wii)
