That UK Wii launch line-up in full!

Wednesday November 1, 09:33 AM

Nintendo has finally revealed the games that will make up the Wii launch roster. And what a line-up it is – 27 games in total, the majority of which will launch on day one and the rest arriving before Christmas. But enough blather, here’s the detail:

For Wii launch day, December 8th
• Wii Sports (Tennis, Golf, Boxing, Bowling, Baseball – bundled with the Wii)
• The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (our choice of the bunch!)
• Wii Play (includes Wii Remote)
• Call of Duty 3
• Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
• Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam
• Madden NFL 07
• Need for Speed Carbon
• Happy Feet
• Rampage: Total Destruction
• Super Monkey ball: Banana Blitz
• Gottlieb Pinball Classics
• Super Fruit Fall (eh?)
• Disney/Pixar Cars
• Barnyard
• Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
• Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII
• Far Cry Vengeance
• GT Pro Series
• Monster 4 x 4 World Circuit
• Open Season
• Rayman Raving Rabbids
• Red Steel
• Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent

And before Christmas 06
• Impossible Mission
• Leaderboard Golf
• Tennis Masters

Following that little lot we’re informed that Wario Ware Smooth Moves will arrive in January and Excite Truck plus a bunch of other unspecified third party games in February. Cool.

Okay there are some dubious selections in there, and a few that we just don’t know anything about yet, but 27 games at launch has got to be some kind of record?! And that’s to say nothing about the classic fare that’ll be available on the Wii’s Virtual Console. But that's another story.

Finally a confirmation of game/accessory pricing – first party titles will retail between £34 and £39. Third parties, as you may recall, are free to set their own prices. Wii Remotes will retail for £29 (buy the Wii Play bundle instead), Classic Controllers and Nunchuks for a piffling £14. Not bad!

So there you have it – a launch line-up that more than makes up in volume what it lacks in outright quality, although there are certainly some stunners in there. Next up a few details about the Virtual Console. See you in a bit then...
