It’s almost impossible to resist using such a headline when you’ve got new shots of the Wii working in full internet browsing mode – and in the English language too. We’ve also got a bunch of shots of a Mii avatar in the midst of creation but, y’know, they didn’t lend themselves to quite such a witty headline.

First things first then, the Wii internet functionality, which is powered by the Opera browser. Well, there’s not an awful lot to say about it really, other than it seems to work nicely enough and has been optimised to operate using the Wii Remote rather than a regular keyboard/mouse interface – hence those can’t-miss-em enormo-icons at the foot of the screen enabling users to skip forwards and backwards, access favourite bookmarks etc. We suspect that there’s a laborious text-based URL input screen lurking somewhere behind all this…

Next up a Mii avatar in construction from dowdy brunette to relatively glam blonde. Following the screenshots in strict order it’s easy to see how such a thing can be built and almost infinitesimally tweaked until it looks at least something like its creator. There’s bound to be a large degree of wish fulfillment bound into this whole process, with users straightening their crooked noses, removing spare chins, beerbellies and colouring those grey hairs back in etc. Or is that just me? We daresay there’ll be a good deal of surreptitious gender reassigment going on when the wife/kids are in bed too – the fact that our little avatar today, Princess72, is the creation of a person called ‘Carguy’ speaks volumes. Nice pink dress there fella!
