Wii Sports Resort has already exceeded a million sales in Europe. Gosh, who’d have thunk it?

Respect is due, though – Nintendo’s popular family sportathon achieved this momentous milestone in its first month of sale alone. By all accounts the MotionPlus accessory sold 936,000 units separately too. On top of all that Sports Resort has already matched the same million-selling feat in the US and Nintendo’s home turf of Japan. Plus, of course, it continues to fly off the shelves like the very hottest cakes in all territories – see the most recent UK chart for more evidence of that.

Small wonder Nintendo is feeling pleased with itself. Possible a little smug, in fact:

“The early sales figures represent a strong start for Wii Sports Resort, which is on its way to becoming another Nintendo title that sells steadily over an extended period of time as opposed to a single flash on its launch day. Combined with strong figures for Wii MotionPlus, the data suggests that more families and friends are playing together than ever before – which, for Nintendo, is a major objective,” says Nintendo Europe’s MD of Marketing and PR, Laurent Fisher.

Nintendo then rounds off its self-congratulatory press release by reminding us all of the 12 varied and interesting challenges bound into Sports Resort, and how each is simple enough for newcomers to pick up and play but satisfying enough to provide ‘experts’ with hours of fun.

No doubt, but does anyone actually know any dog-Frisbee experts...?
