Videogames is a ‘hits’ business these days, thus it should come as no surprise that Ubisoft has confirmed sequels for Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed - all apparently due to launch before the financial year is out too. The news is all good, though, and it comes on the back of a remarkably healthy set of figures from the French publisher. €508 million in revenue for the third quarter of 2008-09 or €852 million over the first nine months - significantly up on 2007-08 in both instances, and UK software sales for the company grew by nearly 25% during the year. So what about the games? As mentioned the biggies are all due before Ubisoft closes the current financial year, so that could mean any time before now and the stroke of midnight on March 31st, 2010. Fingers crossed Ubisoft will see the sense of bringing them all to market this side of Xmas. But there’s more in Ubisoft’s bag of goodies to look forward to over the next 12 months, including a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, Avatar from action movie auteur James Cameron and three license-based games TBC. And then we come to Chicago-set survival-horror ‘I am Alive‘, which was due to launch this spring. We emphasize was. Alas the game has now slipped and Ubisoft will now only commit to bringing it out before next March. Ah well, every silver lining etc…
