Saw man to cut Castlevania film [X360]

Friday July 24, 10:58 AM Saw man to cut Castlevania film

James Wan will co-write and direct the motion picture based on Konami’s long-in-the-tooth vampire saga. We suspect it’s going to be very bloody.

The Castlevania film was announced by Crystal Sky Pictures in 2005, first with Resident Evil director Paul WS Anderson heading things up, then little known Sylvain White called in. However the horror movie website Bloody-Disgusting has revealed that James Wan, director of Dead Silence and Death Sentence, is now in charge, promising: “This will have my stamp on it which Konami is very excited about.” Wan is also co-creator of the harrowing Saw series. We guess Castlevania: The Movie is unlikely to arrive rated anything less than BBFC 15!

James Wan tells Bloody-Disgusting: “The thing I love about what Konami did with Castlevania, was taking the iconic Dracula mythology and Eastern-European setting, and retelling it with a Japanese pop-cultural sensibility. That’s the East-meets-West tone I want to visually expand on for the film. I’m thrilled by the opportunity to make a highly stylized, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic storyline and the cool, anime-like characters. For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain, and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place – The Vampire Killer Whip.”

The last film to be based on a Konami franchise was the Christophe Gans directed Silent Hill, which is pretty cool actually. So we’re betting on Konami overseeing another gripping though gruesome tale when Castlevania finally hits theatres.

A new Castlevania game "Lords of Shadow" is also planned for 2010 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
