Before each level in Mega Man X5, you're given a choice of which character to use. You only have X and Zero available to you at the start, though you can unlock a third character of sorts right when the game begins.If you begin the game as X, you'll automatically unlock the Force Armor, a replica of a fully upgraded X from Mega Man X4, as being available to use in the game's levels. Given how difficult Mega Man X5 is, the Force Armor is a nice recourse to use should you ever get stuck -- though it's recommended that you only use the Force Armor if you're truly stuck, as it takes virtually all challenge out of a level when you decide to use it.
