The Games Of PlayStation 3

Big sequels to Gran Theft Auto, Metal Gear, and Tekken will make their debuts on PlayStation 3. Every publisher in the world still wants a slice of PlayStation, so you really won’t be struggling for choice. And if what Sony says is true – PS3 ‘twice as powerful’ than Xbox 360 – every game that appears on Xbox 360 will look better too. But, careful you don’t swallow that hook line and sinker.

Vision Gran Turismo
SCEI
The definitive driving experience will be calling on all the high-powered calculations the Cell can muster to deliver an even more convincing ride. When GT stepped up from PSOne to PS2, elements such as body roll and under-steer made a huge difference to the handling. With Vision Gran Turismo, the car’s interaction with surface types, affected by weather and atmospheric conditions, will be the next thing to astonish car aficionados. Describing GT as a mere game on PS3 might be underselling the deal somewhat.

Unreal Tournament 2007
Epic
Among the earth-shattering demos of PS3 shown at its unveiling, UT2007 gave doubters something to chew on. A scene depicting a futuristic warrior running headlong into an explosion then being blasted back across the screen looked pre-rendered – a slick computer animation, unlikely to look as good as a game. Then the guy from Epic proved that he was actually in control, zipping about the scene with a virtual camera in real time. Okay, well, wow. Unreal Tournament is Epic’s flagship first-person-shooter, famed for pulling out all the stops. Realism, as in ‘it could happen’ doesn’t apply. High street retailers may need structural reinforcements to contain this one.
