Nintendo Wii - UK launch

The Nintendo Wii – pronounced Wee – is out now and Yahoo! is stupidly excited. Why? Well this is the games console for everyone, mainly because it uses a TV remote-style controller that lets you play without wires or fiddly joypads. Simply point the wireless “wiimote” at your screen and away you go. It really is that simple – the Wii changes gaming for ever.

But is it as good as all that? Our initial impressions suggest the Wii is very impressive indeed. The packaging is very Apple minimalist, while the console is much smaller than the Xbox 360. Set up is easy, with a surprisingly stylish sensor bar placed on top or below your TV. The wiimote controller feels solid and works especially well with Wii sports, which is included with every console. Tennis and bowling appear to be the highlights but boxing felt a bit unresponsive. More experienced gamers will enjoy the latest Zelda game which is really something special. Nintendo are promising over 20 games for launch with a host of exciting and innovative titles to follow next year. Read on for reviews of all the main launch games and more impressions of the console itself.
