Rayman, like Mario, is more commonly associated with adventures, but here stars in a series of goofy mini-games. Not everybody in the household will have the energy to keep up with these antics (we were shattered after 15 minutes!) but players and onlookers alike will be engrossed in the nutty performances.
The Raving Rabbids of the title are a bunch of mischievous bunnies, misbehaving in over 70 scenarios. Rayman, that’s you, keeps them under control with the most inventive Wii controls out of all the launch games. Stand out moments include carefully tracing the outline of food items to feed a hungry bunny; slamming the doors of beach lavatories to keep the naughty bunnies from being exposed; hurling a an enormous cow by the tail, and squirting carrot juice into the masks of bunnies as they swim towards sea shore. Lots of twirling and shaking the controllers is required to get the desired results.
One of the more sophisticated areas finds Rayman in ‘first-person-shooter’ mode – using the Nunchuck to steer him around an idyllic beach, while aiming the remote to thunk bunnies with plungers to halt their invasion. Not only is this so refreshingly funny, it’s not so difficult to prevent anyone from having a try.
Rayman Raving Rabbids is as one of the best examples of Wii gaming going into Christmas. You really feel as though Wii has reinvented the wheel it’s that good.
