Xbox 360: The Games

Most, if not all, of the world’s greatest game creators have signed up for Xbox 360. Microsoft finally nailed Squaresoft and ongoing support from 2K Games (GTA, etc) is a sure sign of great things to come.

We’ve seen some impressive debuts on Xbox. Usually, when Microsoft says it’s going to be big that’s exactly how it turns out to be. Although we won’t see Halo 3 at launch, we think Xbox 360 has enough big guns to keep us sweet until the mother of all sequels arrives next year. Here’s what the almighty Redmond corporation says will shock and awe on Xbox 360.

Perfect Dark Zero

We may not be so sad at the absence of Halo 3 after all, since Perfect Dark is also renowned for its ingenuity and sublime storytelling elements. If you know a bit about games, you’ll have heard of a certain GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64 – another Rare classic, that remains the paragon of console first-person-shooters. A landmark one-player quest, coupled with the sublime multiplayer modes. When Rare’s original Perfect Dark came to N64 it shattered boundaries yet again with a sexy new heroine, Joanna Dark, and an inventory of weapons to put Q-branch to shame. Now that Rare has the future of gaming tech in its hands we can only expect the unexpected, but rest easy that the experience will be special. Online, this has the potential to overshadow even Halo 2.

Gears Of War

If you’re looking for further proof Xbox 360 power, Epic’s Gears of War throws down that particular gauntlet. Epic is best known for the Unreal series, familiar to anyone with an Xbox, and GOW is based on the same technology that drives Unreal 3. With that, GOW has prestige tattooed all over its leathery mutant forehead, promising highly involved and evolved squad-based tactical combat. The oppressively dark sci-fi universe depicted in Gears of War is not for the fainthearted – light-years apart from Kameo – but we expect that some players already have GOW top of the shopping list.
