Ignoring the eternally optimistic battle cry of ‘We will be Number One’, or words to that effect, everything else foretold by Microsoft for Xbox has reached fruition.
Nobody can deny that Microsoft has delivered on its promises. Xbox has given game creators more power and freedom to invent more compelling game worlds, hence unforgettable experiences such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Halo 2 and Project Gotham Racing 2. Xbox Live has massively enriched the gaming experience by taking the world’s most powerful console online, but also making it so easy to do so with a one-gamertag-fits-all strategy.
Beyond the shadow of a doubt Microsoft has entered console gaming to develop and enrich the market for the benefit of all, putting pressure on its rivals to follow suit... or even ‘catch me if you can’ in some cases.
It’s a bold, bold move for Xbox 360 to launch ahead of PlayStation 3. The jury is still out on which of the machines is the most powerful, but at this stage in the development of computer entertainment/digital lifestyle, however you want to call it, perhaps dazzling visuals aren’t the only thing worth holding onto. Microsoft may well have it right by offering a full 360 experience, bringing all your digital lifestyle needs together in one box and allowing you to share the enjoyment via the best online network around.
